For 36 years, Ms. Ernestine Byers-Lowery has called South Fairmount home. Today, she is celebrating another milestone as the first homeowner to complete repairs through WIN’s Beekman Corridor Aging in Place Home Repair Program.
Over time, the concrete patio outside Ms. Byers-Lowery’s home had become damaged, creating a potential tripping hazard. Thanks to the generosity of the donors who support the Beekman Corridor Aging in Place Home Repair Program, that unsafe patio has been replaced, making it easier and safer for her to navigate her home.
Leading these efforts is Richard Gibson, who oversees repairs for the Aging in Place program. Richard meets with homeowners, assesses their needs, coordinates contractors, and helps residents prioritize the improvements that will have the greatest impact. While every project is unique, he says the most important part of his job is listening.
By taking the time to hear each homeowner’s concerns and goals, Richard ensures repairs address the challenges that matter most. Thanks to the generosity of WIN’s supporters, homeowners like Ms. Byers-Lowery can continue living safely in the communities they have helped build.
