Change is happening in the Beekman Corridor, and it’s powered by the residents themselves. From transforming food access to tackling traffic safety and home repairs, neighbors are stepping up, taking action, and making a difference. At the January 24 Beekman Corridor Coalition meeting, residents shared major wins—and the momentum is only growing. Want to see how their hard work is shaping the future?
As part of WIN’s efforts to build up community leadership, we provide support for the Beekman Corridor Coalition. The Coalition is composed of residents of South Cumminsville, Millvale, South Fairmount, North Fairmount, and English Woods. At the Coalition’s January 24 meeting, Corridor residents reported a number of results from their work in the past months, including:
- Beekman Community Market’s mission is to build community through food resource equity and education. The resident-led market received its nonprofit certification from the State of Ohio. It provides local food and artisan products in the community and serves an average of 50 households monthly. The market supports and educates 19 vendors as they start their own businesses. It is open the second Saturday of every month. Follow the market on Facebook.
- The Beekman Coalition Traffic Team is mobilizing residents to develop a Safe Streets plan for the area to address dangers to pedestrians and drivers alike. They have forged partnerships with City Hall and the Devou Good Foundation and hope to have a plan developed in late spring.
- The Beekman Coalition Housing Team is seeking resources to help Corridor residents make home repairs.
In addition to these results, residents learned about efforts by the Millcreek Alliance and Tristate Trails to develop a bike and walking trail and pocket parks along the Millcreek. Residents asked questions, gave suggestions, and will have the opportunity for further input.
