Seventy-five Greater Cincinnati residents attended a Free Wills Clinic at Working In Neighborhoods on April 21 — the largest turnout ever for the program — connecting low-income families with free estate planning services and volunteer legal support.
Hosted by the Legal Aid Society of Greater Cincinnati and the Volunteer Lawyers Project, the clinic helped residents begin important conversations and legal planning for the future.
“We had the largest attendance for any wills clinic we have ever held,” said Stacy Purcell, Senior Supervising Attorney at Legal Aid.
Forty participants later opened legal cases and worked directly with seven volunteer attorneys and four Legal Aid attorneys on May 5 and May 11 to complete will registrations at no cost.
“Estate planning gives families peace of mind and protects the people they love,” said S. Barbara Busch, WIN’s Executive Director. “These free clinics help remove financial barriers so more families in our neighborhoods can plan for the future with dignity and support.”
The clinic combined legal education with one-on-one attorney appointments to review and sign documents. Nationally, only about one-third of adults report having a will, according to a 2025 Pew Charitable Trust survey.
