The program brings neighbors together to share skills, prepare garden spaces, and strengthen local food access ahead of the growing season.

This February, residents in South Cumminsville spent weekdays preparing the South Cumminsville Community Garden for spring—building raised beds for agining gardeners, organizing tools, and topping off soil with fresh compost. With support from Working In Neighborhoods (WIN), volunteers helped lay the groundwork for another season of growing fresh food close to home.

As resident D. Rose shared, “I really do appreciate everything that WIN does in the community as a whole, especially around the gardens.” That appreciation reflects a broader truth: these gardens are more than green spaces—they are anchors of connection and food access in the Beekman Corridor.

Located in a food desert where fresh, affordable produce can be limited, the corridor has responsed through collective action. The Beekman Corridor Coalition, supported by WIN, focuses on increasing self-sufficiency by expanding home gardening and sustaining seven neighborhood gardens.

As the season begins, Garden Together invites neighbors to dig in, grow together, and help cultivate a stronger, healthier community. Sign up to help out at https://forms.gle/soWeknPD6giSsAxU7.
