Children ages 5-12 from throughout the Beekman Corridor kicked off Working In Neighborhoods’ 2026 Summer Camp on June 16 and have already packed their summer with learning, creativity, and fun. From exploring the meaning of Juneteenth and making community connections to discovering money-smart lessons through games and activities, campers are building new skills, making friends, and creating memories that will last long after summer ends.
The first weeks of camp have been filled with engaging lessons and hands-on experiences. During a week focused on sustaining community, campers learned about the importance of connection, teamwork, and caring for the places where we live. Guests from Mill Creek Alliance helped youth learn about watersheds, while First Financial Bank introduced age-appropriate financial concepts through games, reading, and interactive activities. Campers also put their creativity to work by designing colorful bookmarks to encourage summer reading.
The following week focused on hygiene and healthy habits, helping campers learn practical ways to care for themselves throughout the summer and beyond. A special visit from Madcap Puppets added plenty of laughter and excitement, captivating campers with an entertaining performance and working with the kids to design their own hand puppets.
The adventure is just getting started. Upcoming field trips include a visit to Gorman Heritage Farm, where campers will connect with nature and learn about agriculture, Earth Connection, where they will learn about being good stewards of the Earth, a trip to LEGOLAND to spark creativity and imagination, and an afternoon Cincinnati Reds game in August. With every activity, campers discover new interests, build confidence, and enjoy a summer full of learning and fun.
Working In Neighborhoods extends its sincere thanks to the Elsa Heisel Sule Foundation and the Robert A. and Marian K. Kennedy Charitable Trust for their generous support in making this summer’s camp program possible. Their investment helps create meaningful opportunities for youth to learn, grow, and thrive throughout the summer.
Those interested in supporting our campers are invited to make a donation to help cover bus transportation costs for our August Cincinnati Reds game. Every contribution helps ensure all children can participate in this exciting summer experience.
